The Other 23
Where health actually happens

One hour-ish of your day, door to door. Health happens in the other 23.

How you live, health tech, wellness trends, and the system around them — examined by two doctors who know the exam room is the smallest part of the day.

Most doctor visits take up about an hour of your day — if you’re lucky. That leaves 23 other hours when people are making decisions that shape their health without a stethoscope nearby. And the reality is that most of what kills people in this country is preventable. Heart disease, type 2 diabetes, many strokes, and a striking share of cancers are driven by factors we understand remarkably well. The problem isn’t a lack of evidence. It’s translation. It’s access. It’s how information gets delivered, who gets to deliver it, and whether anyone has made it practical enough for real life.

The Other 23 is a podcast hosted by two physicians who know that health is influenced by far more than what happens in an exam room. Yes, we care about blood pressure and lab results. But we’re equally interested in sleep, food, stress, exercise, technology, healthcare policy, social media doomscrolling, questionable wellness trends, and why everyone suddenly becomes an expert after reading one online article. With backgrounds and shared interests in lifestyle and preventive medicine, the hosts explore the science and stories behind how people actually live.

Each episode blends medicine, research, culture, technology, and current events into conversations that are evidence-based, practical, and occasionally funny — because healthcare is serious, but talking about it doesn’t always have to be. Whether discussing longevity, AI and social media in medicine, nutrition myths, wearable tech, or the latest trend someone swears “changed their life,” The Other 23 is about bringing a thoughtful, evidence-based perspective to making health information usable during the vast majority of the day when patients aren’t sitting on crinkly exam table paper.
